Hospice Colour walk to brighten up CN Centre parking lot Sunday

The Hospice House’s “100K in the Month of May” Colour Walk will reach its conclusion at the CN Centre this weekend.

“It is an exciting day where we celebrate life with colour,” Donna Flood, the Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society Executive Director.

“Friends and family walk around a pre-determined path at the CN Centre where there are different tables throwing different colours,” she explained, adding people should dress in white for the full effect.

All of this is to celebrate the end of the colour walk, where some people pledged to walk 100k in May while raising money for the Hospice House.

Flood said the money raised will go towards creating an outdoor space for residents.

Their goal is to raise $50,000 for this outdoor area, Flood said making sure it is fully accessible is one of the price tag’s biggest factors.

“We haven’t quite reached our goal yet, we are really encouraging people to come and donate to this really good cause,” she said.

Another focus of the walk is to strengthen the sense of community among walkers, Flood said everyone who chose to walk 100k has a reason for doing so.

“One [woman] is walking in memory of her grandma who died in hospice,” Flood said. “Before her grandma died, she had her wedding at hospice so her grandma could be part of the ceremony. That is a really awesome story, and is pretty much what hospice is about – ensuring everyone has their last wish.”

There is no fee for participating in Sunday’s walk – though donations are welcomed.

The walk is being held at the CN Centre Parking lot on Sunday (May 28), it will run from 10:00 until 12:00.
