Wage roll back for BC teachers?

A tense day at the negotiating table for the BCTF and the provincial government.

This after the province’s chief negotiator Peter Cameron gave notice the union has until the end of June to accept their latest contract proposal or else face a wage roll back of five percent.

Cameron says they are offering wage increases of 7.3 percent over six years in contrast to the BCTF demand of more than 15 percent.

He also says they are offering eligible teachers a $1,200 signing bonus should they agree to a deal by the end of the school year.

BCTF president Jim Iker responded by saying it’s more “threats” and “more of the same” from the government.

He also says instead of threats the government should be putting forward a fair offer.

Iker says the union would also fight any wage roll back at the Labour Relations Board.

The two sides are scheduled to meet again next Thursday.
