ICYMI: Northern Crossfit competition being held in Prince George this weekend

A functional fitness competition for all skill levels is being held in Prince George this weekend.

It is called Battle in the North – it will feature running, climbing, powerlifting, handstand walks, and more.

“It is a three-day fitness competition where everyone is going to be able to showcase their fitness in a variety of different ways,” said Steve O’Beirne, the event organizer.

This is the first time an event like this has happened in Prince George, O’Beirne said he was tired of northerners having to travel south for great events and was inspired by other regional projects like Northern FanCon.

“We have the facilities, we have the people to put on these events, and we have the businesses willing to sponsor them,” he said. “I think we can try and do something for the north. This is our big swing for the fences – we are all in, we are just going for it.”

Many events will be held at Masich Place Stadium and will be free to watch.

“Each event is scored, the cumulation of your total score will give the winner. It should come down to the last event or two,” O’Beirne explained.

The competition has four divisions and is designed to include everyone from seasoned professionals all the way to people who have never even attempted a rope climb before.
