PG RCMP bring back Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics BC

The Prince George RCMP held their annual Law Enforcement Torch Run this afternoon (Thursday), supporting Special Olympics BC athletes in Prince George.

“This is an opportunity for some of our Special Olympics athletes to come out and do a fun run-walk in the community with law enforcement and first responders from Prince George,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

“We’ve been raising money through a couple of different ways, we’ve been selling 50/50 tickets in the community over the course of the last month.”

The proceeds will go towards Special Olympics BC to help offset some the training and travel costs for the athletes.

Cooper added the event has been an ‘in-house only event’ over the past few years due to the pandemic.

“I have been walking through the community and been approached by some of our athletes asking when it’s going to start up again,” Cooper said.

“This year we’re happy to bring it back to the community, and join with our athletes again, who really love interacting with law enforcement and first responders in this happy stress-free environment that’s really focused on them and raising money and awareness for their events.”

In Prince George, the RCMP have been doing the Law Enforcement Torch Runs for the last six years.
