Lombardy Trailer Park residents applaud clean-up order

Untitled

On Wednesday night Prince George City Council voted to move forward with 52 remedial action orders against the Lombardy Trailer Park on 2188 Norwood Street.

A full clean-up of the park and demolition of 16 derelict trailers has been ordered by July 20th. If work is not complete by then, the city will move in to complete the work and bill the property owner.

Park residents turned out in force to support the decision .

Wendy Cardinal says park management sold her a trailer with a faulty roof and black mold.

“In one month I killed 23 mice. That’s what I living with, that mold was killing me. I went to arbitration over the roof and that and they sided with me. He (the landlord) didn’t comply and they cut my lock off the door and locked me out and took all my stuff.”

Cardinal continued with emotion, alleging that the landlords prey on the vulnerable while letting the park rot.

“There’s a lady, Mona, she owns a trailer… he evicted her, he pulled her out and she is now homeless in the trailer park. That’s her trailer, the deeds are in her name, and he just does these things.”

The small crowd of residents that gathered outside council chambers after the decision said that the landlords completely absent, until rent day.

“They live in big fancy homes in Surrey. We are peons, just peons.” said Glen, a senior who has lived in the park for 16 years.

“There are no rural roads that are worse than our roads in there. The fire department and emergency vehicles, I’m surprised they still come in there. I guess by law they have to, but it’s terrible.”

Glen went on to applaud the action, saying the new council and bylaw enforcement team has “done more in 6 months than in the last 16 years.”

A representative of the Lombardy property owners said that they will not fight the orders, and they plan on complying.
