MOUNT POLLEY MINE AWARDED RESTRICTED RE-START

The BC government has authorized a restricted restart for the Mt. Polley Mine.

Mayor of Williams Lake Walt Cobb says the anxiety can fully be put to rest.

“Everybody was a little bit anxious as to whether was or was not going to happen, I am thankful that the public got on board and sent in the letters and let them know this was crucial to our area.”

Paul French, President of United Steelworkers local 1-425 also says he’s quite happy that this morning’s announcement finally came through.

“As you know we’ve been pushing to have this for quite sometime and the process is finally to where it is at.”

Mt. Polley says it will take about 30 days before it can begin production.

The restricted restart authorizes Mt. Polley to operate at roughly half the rate of normal operations.
