Sarah Holland and Shar McCrory clear winners of SD57 trustee by-election

The votes are in and Sarah Holland and Shar McCrory will be filling the two vacant spaces on School District 57’s board of trustees.

In Saturday’s trustee by-election, Sarah Holland finished in first place with 1,590 votes, Shar McCrory followed closely behind with 1,384.

There was a large drop off between second and third in the polls:

  • Milton Mahoney – 672 votes
  • David Low – 632 votes
  • Lucy Duncan – 194 votes
  • Bill Price – 154 votes
  • Don Fitzpatrick – 101 votes
  • Dusty Martin – 97 votes
  • Heather McKenzie – 95 votes
  • Josh Silva (who pulled out of the race) – 69 votes

A total of 4,988 votes were cast, which means at least 2,494 people filled out ballots.

Holland and McCrory earned more votes individually than were collectively cast in 2022’s by-election (1,137).

Their first board meeting will be in 10 days on June 27th, when the district’s 2023-24 budget is required to be finalized.
