O’Grady Road name change to happen in August

O’Grady Road will become Dakelh Ti on August 14th.

An update on the renaming of the Southridge area road will be presented to City Council at tomorrow’s (Monday) meeting, after council approved the renaming back in June 2022.

Six weeks before the name change is made, houses on the road will receive an information package in the mail – including all the information property owners will need to change their address.

According to the update, Canada Post will provide one free year of mail forwarding for the impacted homes.

The report also states “The renaming of the road is consistent with the City Government and Infrastructure Priorities by focusing on meaningful communication and relationship development to advance shared priorities, specifically the development of a strategy to implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples that builds on the City’s relationship with the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation and urban indigenous service providers.”
