Warmer, dryer June followed by warmer weather to start July

June was another warmer and dryer month in the Prince George area.

According to Environment Canada Meteorologist Yimei Li, the average temperature in the northern capital last month was 14.6 degrees, nearly a full degree higher than normal.

“The normal mean temperature is 13.8,” she explained.

“Prince George only got 60 per cent precipitation of the normal total of precipitation for the month.”

She said we saw 38.8 millimetres of rain in June, with the normal being 65.3 millimetres for the month.

Looking ahead, the warm temperatures are expected to continue, as a ridge of high pressure moves across our province.

“There should be a slight cooling trend into next week, looking at the the long-range model, it’s likely to be a bit warmer than the normal temperatures, but we’re not looking at significant above-normal temperatures like this week for the next two weeks.”

Environment Canada is calling for temperatures to reach the high 20s this week, before potentially cracking the 30s this weekend.
