Major League Baseball:

First baseman Jared Young of Prince George went 0-for-4 in the Chicago Cubs’ 6-5 loss to the Brewers Thursday afternoon in Milwaukee.

In nine regular-season games with Chicago this year, the 27-year-old Young is 5-for-26 at the plate for a .192 batting average with one homer and four RBIs.

The (40-46) Cubs visit the (48-40) New York Yankees tonight (Friday 4:05 PT) to start a weekend series.

Toronto Blue Jays  6  Chicago White Sox  2   (1st game)

All the runs in the first game of a doubleheader came in the 11th inning.

The (48-40) Jays visit the (38-48) Detroit Tigers in a weekend series starting today (Friday 3:40 PT)

Toronto is tied with the N.Y. Yankees for 3rd in the American League East.

CFL: (Week 5)

Saskatchewan  12  Edmonton  11

The (3-1) Riders scored nine points in the last 70 seconds of the 4th quarter to erase an 11-3 deficit and end a 7-game regular season home losing streak.

The Elks slipped to 0-5.

In the CFL tonight (Friday 5:30 PT), (1-2) Calgary visits (3-1) Winnipeg.

The Saturday game (4:00 PT) has (1-2) Ottawa at (0-3) Hamilton.

The (3-1) B.C. Lions host the (2-1) Montreal Alouettes Sunday afternoon at 4:00.

Hockey:

Saskatoon Blades defenceman Tanner Molendyk has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the NHL’s Nashville Predators.

The 18-year-old from McBride was selected in the first round, 24th overall by the Predators in the NHL Draft last week.

The L.A. Kings have re-signed their 35-year-old Captain Anze Kopitar a two-year contract extension worth $14 million.

Canadian Denis Shapovalov won his second-round match at Wimbledon.

Two other Canadians, Milos Raonic and Leylah Fernandez lost in round two.

Canada’s Bianca Andreescu won her opening-round match Thursday and her second-round match today (Friday) while another Canadian Rebecca Marino lost in round one.

Matches are behind schedule due to rain this week.
