Major League Baseball:

On his 28th birthday, first baseman Jared Young of Prince George went 1-for-4 with an RBI in the Chicago Cubs’ 7-4 victory Sunday afternoon over the New York Yankees.

In 10 regular-season games with Chicago this year, Young is 6-for-30 at the plate for a .200 batting average with one homer and five RBIs.

Toronto Blue Jays  4  Detroit Tigers  3  (10 innings)

The Jays are 50-41 as of the All-Star break, good for 3rd place in the A.L. East.

Toronto is also tied with Houston for the second wild-card spot, a game ahead of the NY Yankees and two in front of the Boston Red Sox.

CFL: (Final game in Week 5)

B.C. Lions  35  Montreal Alouettes  19

The (4-1) Lions are tied with Winnipeg for the top spot in the West Division, just ahead of (3-1) Saskatchewan.

B.C. will have the bye in Week 6 and return to action on Saturday, July 22nd when they host Saskatchewan.

Hockey:

–The Ottawa Senators have traded 25-year-old forward Alex DeBrincat to the Detroit Red Wings for two players (forward Dominik Kubalik, prospect defenceman Donovan Sebrango), a conditional 2024 first-round draft pick and a fourth-round pick.

–The Vancouver Canucks have re-signed forward Nils Höglander to a two-year contract worth $2.2 million.
