Major League Baseball:

The National League snapped a nine-game losing streak in the All-Star Game.

The NL won for the first time in 11 years.

The (50-41) Toronto Blue Jays resume action on Friday (4:07 PM PT) when they host the (52-39) Arizona Diamondbacks to begin a 6-game homestand.

The Jays are 3rd in the A.L. East and also tied with Houston for the second A.L. wild-card spot, a game ahead of the NY Yankees and two in front of the Boston Red Sox.

First baseman Jared Young has now played 10 games with the Chicago Cubs since his call-up from the Iowa Cubs.

Young, who just turned 28, is batting .200 with Chicago (6-for-30) with one homer and five RBIs.

Hockey:

The Prince George Spruce Kings have added 17-year-old Japanese forward Kazumo Sasaki (’05) to their roster for the 2023-24 BC Hockey League season.

The five-foot-10 Sasaki, who is from Nishitokyo, Japan, notched 26 points (12 goals) in 54 games last season with the Chippewa Steel of the North American Hockey League.

UNBC Timberwolves:

Basketball players Maria Mongomo and Sam Raphael have been added to the UNBC Wall of Honour.

Mongomo is the all-time top women’s scorer at UNBC while Raphael is the only three-time winner of the program’s Best Defensive Player Award.

 

Prince George Senior Lacrosse:

Game two will be played tonight (Wednesday) at 8:00 at Kin 1.

Assault goalie Russel Mills captured the Helen McIntosh Trophy as league MVP.

 

Tennis:

(2) Novak Djokovic won his quarter-final match in four sets at Wimbledon.

CFL:

The B.C. Lions return to action on Saturday, July 22nd when they host Saskatchewan.

The (4-1) Lions are tied with Winnipeg for the top spot in the West Division, just ahead of (3-1) Saskatchewan.

Week six of the CFL season starts on Thursday (6 PM PT) with (1-3) Hamilton at (0-5) Edmonton. The Elks have lost a league-record 19 straight home games.
