Chicago Cubs first basemen Jared Young of Prince George is looking to get back to work with the MLB All-Star Break winding down.
He flew back to Arizona to recharge the batteries after playing 10 games with the Cubs, batting .200 with one home run and five RBIs.
In an interview with Vista Radio, the 28-year-old Young said playing in Yankee Stadium for the first time and taking two of three from the Bronx Bombers was a pretty good feeling.
“You walk into the stadium and you can kind of feel it as New York is a different place energy-wise and the stadium is no different. Even when there is nobody in there and you show up early there is still kind of a buzz and that is something pretty special.”
“There are a lot of fans out front, the subway goes right by the stadium so it’s always making that noise and people at the subway station. It’s a really cool place to play baseball and when the game comes around that place gets rocking and to get a couple of wins there was pretty fun.”
One of the major highlights from his most recent stint with the Cubs was his first career home run against Philadelphia Phillies ace Aaron Nola at Wrigley Field.
“With two strikes, he gave me a decent pitch to hit and I was able to put a good swing on it and adrenaline kind of took over. It was a crazy experience but I have a lot more in my career.
Young’s goal for the second half is to stick with the Cubs for the remainder of the year.
“I don’t think they ever call people up with the intention of them not sticking around. This is my career and this is my livelihood so I am going to do everything I can to stay with the big league club for as long as I can and if that is the rest of my career that is how I want it to be,” added Young.
Prior to getting recalled, Young was tearing the cover off the baseball in Triple-A Iowa where he had 13 home runs and 45 RBIs to go along with a .326 batting average.
Chicago returns to action Friday when they host the Boston Red Sox at Wrigley Field.
