PG Cycling Club holds first Enduro event

The PG Cycling Club held its first Enduro event this weekend, showcasing some of the best our area has for biking.

The two day event was held at Otway, Pidherny and Tabor.

Gino Nava, Mountain Director of the Prince George Cycling Club said the feedback has been incredible so far.

“People coming and telling me the runs have been amazing and you can get some really good training going on for people who want to want to compete at a higher level,” he said.

Nava said most of the competitors are local, but they’re hoping to attract more from the areas surrounding Prince George.

“We are wanting, in the future, to attract people from Burns Lake, Vanderhoof, Quesnel, now that they know there’s a multi-day, multi-stage event spanning over three locations.”

Nava said planning for the event starts in the winter, and they’re already thinking ahead to next year.

“The Enduro race event will look the same, but it’ll have different runs, and potentially even more stages over the weekend.”

During today’s final stage at Tabor, the Association of Caledonia Trail Builders (ACT) touted memberships to help them build more trails in the area.

“We’ve actually been working on this trail system for seven years,” said Philip Bouwman with ACT.

“A team of people, they started thinking about this idea, they mapped and surveyed a whole bunch of trails they wanted to propose to Trails and Recsite BC, and it took seven years of just bugging them to get approval and all the permitting.”

Bouwman said they’re striving to create a family environment that everybody can ride in.
