The (48-51) Chicago Cubs visit the (41-60) Chicago White Sox tonight (Tuesday 5:10 PT).

First baseman Jared Young of P.G. did not play in the Cubs’ 4-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals that concluded Sunday.

The 28-year-old Young is batting .171 (6-for-35) in 13 games in a Chicago uniform with one homer and five RBIs.

Hockey:

The PG Cougars hired Jim Playfair as the team’s new Associate Coach.

He replaces Josh Dixon, who has accepted a position with the University of Guelph.

Playfair, from Fort St. James, spent 15 years coaching in the NHL as both an Associate Coach and Head Coach.

He was part of the Cougars coaching staff in a part-time role in 2022-2023.

Former Prince George Cougars forward Blake Eastman will play his final season of junior hockey in PEI.

The 20-year-old Eastman has joined the Summerside Western Capitals of the junior A Maritime Hockey League after spending the last four seasons with the Cougars.

In 180 regular-season games with P.G., he tallied 44 points, including 19 goals.

At age 38, Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins announced his retirement after 19 seasons in the NHL.

Bergeron racked up 1,040 points, including 427 goals, in 1,294 career regular-season games, all with the Bruins.

The Williams Lake Golf & Tennis Club is hosting this year’s BC Senior Men’s Championship.

156 players are entered into the three-day event that starts today (Tuesday).

There are 3 golfers from PG in the field; William Gilbert, Gord Hunter and Mike Legg.

 

Soccer: 

FIFA Women’s World Cup

Canada, coming off a 0-0 tie against Nigeria, plays its second game Wednesday (5 AM PT) against the (0-1) Republic of Ireland in Perth, Australia.

Week 8 of the CFL season starts Friday with (2-4) Hamilton at (3-3) Ottawa (4:30 PT).

The Prince George Kodiaks junior football team opens its 10-game BCFC regular season schedule on Saturday, July 29th when they host the defending Canadian Bowl champions, the Okanagan Sun.
