House destroyed by fire in West Quesnel

The Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department was called out to a fire in the alley off of Elliott Street just after 1 o’clock this (Tuesday) afternoon.

Incident Commander Bart Schneider describes the scene.

“The call came in just before 1 o’clock.  When I arrived on scene there was a lot of public in the way, people coming to take a look at it but the fire was already through the front side, the front door and had extended into the roof area and we had heavy flame right through to the back side of the house coming out the eaves.”

Schneider says they were able to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby brush and other homes in the area.

He says they don’t believe that anybody was inside.

“I did speak to some people and they did confirm that it was not being occupied on a regular basis, but there were some homeless people that did come around here on occasion, so that’s our only concern there.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
