The Rotary and Community Foundation proposed Mega-Park will remain as only a proposal.
In a joint statement, both Rotary and the Community Foundation confirmed ground will not break on the park, saying “Considering the information and concerns brought forward by Administration, Council, and the community, the Foundation and Rotary have decided to no longer pursue the proposed mega park.”
“The Foundation and Rotary extend our sincere gratitude to all our donors and community members who have contributed thus far to this proposed initiative.”
The statement continues to say the money raised for the park will be used “in a way that will have a lasting impact on our local parks and green spaces.”
This will include consultation with those who donated and contributed to the cause.
“The intention of the Community Foundation and Rotary club was always to explore if this was the right fit and time for the community,” Mindy Stroet, the Community Foundation’s Director of Development, told My PG Now. “I think based on the consultations that were held, we have determined we are not pursing it any longer.”
The park would have cost $68-million over a 50-year lifespan, 0.005% of the city’s operating budget in that time.
