August will begin how July ended in Prince George – hot and dry.
Daily temperatures are expected to reach into the high 20s heading into the long weekend with no shortage of sunshine.
Environment Canada Meteorologist, Gregg Walters told MyPGNow.com eventually, the long-range weather pattern will even out.
“August is a little bit cooler than July in the Prince George area. The nights are a little bit longer and the sun sets earlier – with all things being equal that results in temperatures being somewhat lower than July on average but the month is going to start pretty well dry.”
The northern capital saw 23.2 millimetres of rain last month – a far cry from the 62.1 we normally see – equating to 38.5% of normal, making it the 9th driest July on record.
“There was a little bit of thunderstorm activity last month – maybe a little bit more than normal but that certainly is a factor and plays into the dryness and whatever potential there is for forest fire production from lightning.”
As for the temperature, daily highs reached 16.3 degrees on average while the normal is around 15.8 in July.
