Summer skating lessons being held in Prince George

In very Canadian fashion, the Northern BC Centre for Skating has opened registration for summer skating courses.

The CanSkate program is beating the winter rush, and will have kids lacing them up before they are back in school from summer break.

“It is taught by nationally certified coaches, we usually have between three and five on the ice at a time,” Cynthia McHale, the Northern BC Centre for Skating’s Learn to Skate Director told My PG Now. “If kids want to go into hockey, ringette, or figure skating, CanSkate is where we help build those skills.”

She also said many kids come just because it is fun, and skating is a “huge part of our culture. When you drive around the City of Prince George, most parks and schoolyards have an ice rink in them in the winter.”

Per session, McHale said there are usually between 30 and 45 kids on the ice at a time.

PreCan, designed for kids three and younger, opens in September.

“I think we are doing a really great job of delivering good quality programming. All of our coaches, TAs, and staff really enjoy spending time with kids and have a huge desire to instill a love for skating in all the kids that come through our programs.”
