Mackenzie RCMP investigating possible arson that destroyed cabin

The Mackenzie RCMP is investigating a possible arson that destroyed a cabin.

At around 9:06 Monday evening, the Mackenzie Fire Department notified the RCMP of a bush fire near Cicada Road in the community.

Police attended with the fire department, and found a ski cabin on fire.

Fire crews were able to quickly contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further into the bush.

Police say there was no one inside the cabin at the time, and it was destroyed.

The damages are estimated at $40,000.

According to police, witnesses at the scene reported they heard a motor vehicle in the area but no description could be provided.

Mounties suspect this fire may have been intentionally set.
