The Prince George Kodiaks find themselves 0-2 to start the season, following a 49-10 rout at the hands of the West Shore Rebels yesterday. (Saturday)
The Kodiaks gave the ball away six times, fumbling twice and throwing four interceptions.
On the Kodiaks’ first offensive play of the game, a broken toss play saw the Rebels recover a fumble in the Kodiaks’ end zone, but the Rebels were offside, cancelling the touchdown.
“We didn’t execute well enough, I don’t know that our effort was consistent with what we’re asking, and we need to make some adjustments and make sure that’s better on the field,” said Kodiaks Head Coach Jamie Boreham.
The Kodiaks proved to be unable to stop the Rebels’ aerial attack, allowing five touchdowns through the air.
Rebels Receiver Kieran Poissant was on the receiving end of three of those touchdowns.
The Rebels added two more on the ground.
The Kodiaks had several opportunities to score, including a pair of opportunities deep in Rebels territory.
The Kodiaks were stuffed at the two, when a penalty pushed them back to the 28, where they missed a 35-yard field goal attempt.
After a Rebels punt and Kodiaks interception, the Kodiaks forced a fumble which they recovered on the Rebels two-yard line.
Penalties and sacks pushed them back to the point where they had to punt the football.
Kodiaks’ Quarterback Quinn Neukomm and Reciever Kayle Cowley were eventually able to connect on a five-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter for the Kodiaks first points of the season.
The Kodiaks added a field goal on their next possession.
The snaps under centre were split between Neukomm and Sam Sabine again, as they were in the Kodiaks’ season opener.
“If someone wants to take charge and be that guy, then be that guy,” Boreham said.
The Kodiaks will finish off their three-game homestand on Saturday against the Kamloops Broncos (0-2).
