Prince George woman walks 24 hours to raise money for Canadian Cancer Society

“My feet are kind of numb at this point, my hips and my legs are sore but my feet are numb.”

That’s how Megan Goetken was feeling following a 24-hour walk in the CN Centre parking lot, raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Goetken decided to do the Stronger Than Cancer Walk on her own following the permanent cancellation of the Relay for Life in Prince George.

She didn’t have to tackle the 24 hours alone, as some friends joined in throughout the duration of the walk.

“I had a couple friends come, I think my last friend came around midnight,” Goetken explained.

“My boyfriend was with me the whole time, he was sleeping in the car for most of the night but he was still here.”

Goetken said she’ll continue to do her walk every year if there is no Relay for Life again.

“I did it last year and I’ll do it continuously,” she said.

“I didn’t have as many people last year but I’ve had more people this year because the relay was cancelled so I wasn’t super lonely.”

When she finished her walk at 11:00 this morning (Sunday), she estimated around $1,500 had been raised.

Donations can be made to Goetken’s walk here.
