NFL: (Final game in Week 1)

New York Jets  22  Buffalo Bills  16  (OT)

After just four plays into his debut, 39-year-old Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles and is out for the season.

The Jets won the game early in overtime on a 65-yard punt return for a touchdown from Xavier Gipson.

Major League Baseball:

Texas Rangers  10  Toronto Blue Jays  4

The (80-64) Jays, with 18 games left, host the (79-64) Rangers again tonight (Tuesday 4:07 PT) as they continue a key 4-game series.

Toronto holds down the second of three wild-card spots in the A.L., however, they are only half a game ahead of the Rangers and one in front of the (79-65) Seattle Mariners. The Mariners, who dropped an 8-5 decision to LA Angels in 11 innings Monday, have lost four straight.

NHL:

The Vancouver Canucks have given the “C” to defenceman Quinn Hughes.

The soon-to-be 24-year-old Hughes becomes the 15th Captain in Canucks history.

 

PG Cougars:

The Prince George Cougars play their final two exhibition games in Grande Cache, Alberta.

They take on the Edmonton Oil Kings on Friday night (6:00 PT) and Sunday afternoon (noon PT).

The Cougars split their first two preseason games, both of which were played in Port Coquitlam.

They lost 8-4 to the Vancouver Giants Friday and then rebounded for a 5-0 win over the Victoria Royals Saturday.

PG Spruce Kings:

The Prince George Spruce Kings have three more pre-season games this week, all in Trail: Thursday (4 PM) against Cranbrook, Friday (7:30 PM) against Trail and Saturday (2 PM) against Powell River.

The Spruce Kings went 1-1 in a pair of exhibition games last weekend on the road.

They lost 2-1 to the Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday and followed that up with a 4-1 victory over the Langley Rivermen on Saturday.

UNBC Timberwolves:

The UNBC Timberwolves will be on the road this weekend in Canada West soccer.

The (1-4-1) UNBC men play the (0-3-1) Dinos in Calgary on Sunday afternoon (1:15 PT).

The (0-4) UNBC women visit Manitoba Friday night and Winnipeg on Saturday event/

Junior Football:

The (2-3) Prince George Kodiaks host the (3-2) Langley Rams Saturday night at 7:00 at Masich Place Stadium in the BC Football Conference.

The Junior Kodiaks lost 62-0 to the Rams last weekend in Langley.

CFL: (Week 14)

The (8-4) B.C. Lions return to action on Saturday (4 PM) when they host the (3-9) Ottawa RedBlacks.

Ottawa has lost six straight.

The Lions are 2nd in the West Division, four points behind the (10-3) Winnipeg Blue Bombers with a game in hand.

The Blue Bombers host (5-7) Hamilton Saturday afternoon (1:00 Pt).

Week 15 begins with a pair of Friday games: (10-1) Toronto at (6-6) Montreal (4:00 PT) and (3-10) Edmonton at (6-6) Saskatchewan (6:30).
