City Council supports Caledonia Nordic Ski Club expansion application

The City of Prince George will supply a letter of support to the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club on its application to expand their area operation.

City Council voted to give the letter of support at their meeting Monday night following a presentation from Ski Club Director Jim Burbee.

According to Burbee’s presentation, crownland applications are initiated through Front Counter BC, and managed internally by government staff.

During his presentation, Burbee explained the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club is growing, and the land base is shrinking.

“We have a significant portion of our land that is under a year-to-year use agreement,” Burbee said.

“We’re very fortunate to have Terus Construction as a neighbour, they have land they’re not using and they’ve allowed us to use it for a number of years now.”

The club is looking to expand an 84 hectare section of land on the Cranbrook Hill Greenway, and a five hectare section of land to the east.

“This development and what your ski club has done and how it’s put Prince George on the global map, I think is absolutely incredible,” said Councillor Brian Skakun.

“I would rather see this kind of development than any other kind of development.”

Skakun moved to provide the letter of support, which was unanimously approved by council.
