Two 2024 Para Ski World Championships under half a year away

Prince George is being put under the microscope today by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), as inspections before the 2024 Para Biathlon World Championships & Para Nordic World Cup Finals are ongoing.

Elke Gundermann, FIS Para Nordic Coordinator, Georg Zipfel, FIS Race Director, and John Aalberg – Chief of Competition, were all present at the Caledonia Nordic Ski club today, ensuring Prince George is ready to welcome the world’s best.

“It is pretty amazing to be back here,” Gundermann, who was at the same event held in Prince George in 2019, told My PG Now. “It was a wonderful event in 2019, a lot of lasting memories.”

These events are the world finals for their categories – some competitors who will be in Prince George competed at the Olympics last year.

“For all the people here in town, it is a must-do,” Gundermann said.

Kevin Pettersen, Chair of the local organizing committee, agreed.

“These are the world’s best… in an Olympic year, these would be the Olympics.”

He said 200-250 total team participants are expected to flood the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club when the events kick off in March.

The Club is holding a 6 month out event on Saturday at 11:00 a.m., which is the first opportunity people will have to sign up to volunteer for the games.
