PG Sports—Wednesday, July 22

The Canadian women’s baseball team, which includes Amanda Asay of Prince George, is 2-0 at the Pan Am Games in Toronto following a 9-3 victory over Venezuela.

The 27-year-old Asay, who was the DH in the clean-up spot, went 1-for-3 with an RBI. In two games, Asay is 2-for-6 with a pair of RBI’s.

Canada continues round robin play this afternoon (Wednesday) against 1-0 Puerto Rico. They will also face the U.S. Friday (4pm). The Canadian team won its opener 13-1 over Cuba.

–Alyx Treasure of Prince George ended up 7th out of 16
today (Wednesday) in the Pan Am Games women’s high jump. The 23-year-old Treasure was successful with a leap of 1.85 metres but missed her three attemtps at 1.88. Her personal best is 1.89 metres.

–Inner City boxer Kenny Lally fights top-ranked Andy Cruz of Cuba tonight (Wed) in the semi-finals of the 56 kilos weight class at the Pan Am Games. The winner will go for gold Friday while the loser will capture a bronze.

The 26-year-old Lally is coming off a 2-1 victory over Segundo Padilla of Ecuador in the quarter-finals.

–The Provincial Midget Lacrosse Championships start this afternoon (Wed) at the Kin Centre with 3 games in the six team A1 Division, which consists of Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island teams.

The host PG A2 Midget Posse open against Kamloops Friday morning at 10:30.

–The men’s Aberdeen Glen Open will be held this week. The 54-hole tournament runs Friday to Sunday.
