The pledge was given by store manager Regan Bader during a preview event. The location opened its doors to shoppers at 8 a.m.

In thanks for the pledge, Chief Logan presented a plaque which will be on display in the new store.

She issued the following statement:

“The new Save-On-Foods Pine Centre Store’s pledge to respectfully acknowledge our unceded ancestral lands celebrates another positive step forward on the Road to Reconciliation. The fact that this pledge comes from one of the best-known grocery store chains in BC and is the first ‘Respectful Acknowledgement’ pledge from a private-sector firm in our territory is huge. I want to thank Store Manager Regan Bader for taking this bold step and including our nation in the opening of this fabulous new store. The Respectful Acknowledgement plaque on display in the store is a sign that this store welcomes our members and all Indigenous shoppers.”

“We are honoured to display the Respectful Acknowledgement plaque in this new store, and we see this as a small but important step on the road to reconciliation with the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation,” said Save-On-Foods Pine Centre store manager Regan Bader. “We are proud to support our community as we work together to build a better, more inclusive future for all.”

The Lheidli T’enneh previously accepted ‘Respectful Acknowledgement’ pledges from the City of Prince George, Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, Prince George Public Library, the Prince George Pediatricians, Prince George Airport Authority (YXS) and the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club.
