St. Vincent De Paul preparing to serve 250 meals on Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and St. Vincent De Paul is preparing to feed up to 250 people this weekend.

“We plan to do a full turkey dinner on Sunday with turkey and all the trimmings that go with it to those challenged by poverty and may not have a warm meal for themselves,” Bernie Gould, a near 45-year St. Vincent De Paul worker, told My PG Now.

She said Thanksgiving normally draws in between 175 to 250 people.

Gould was happy to say their required volunteer numbers for the meal have been met, but added volunteers on any other day are in high demand.

“We are always looking for volunteers, Monday to Friday and on the weekends,” she said. “We are desperately needing volunteers, we lost a lot of our volunteers over the pandemic.”

Gould said anyone can visit the St. Vincent’s drop in centre, or phone at 250-564-7871 to get a volunteer application and a criminal record check.
