Parks and public washrooms to close at end of October

Dread it, run from it, winter arrives all the same.

The City of Prince George is starting to wind down operations for the winter months and will be closing off vehicle access to some parks, and outdoor washrooms.

Park closures include:

  • Carrie Jane Gray Park – Closed for the year on the evening of Monday, October 30, 2023, reopening Spring 2024.
  • Connaught Hill Park – Closed for the year on the evening of Monday, October 30, 2023, reopening Spring 2024.
  • Nechako Riverside Park – Closed once snow has fallen and stayed on the ground. The parking lot will not be plowed, and the park will not be open to the public for the winter, reopening Spring 2024.

Washroom and outhouse closures include:

  • Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park – Washroom nearest to 17th Avenue and washroom near the Exploration Place will close on Tuesday, October 31.
  • Duchess Park – Playground washroom will close on Tuesday, October 31.
  • Carrie Jane Grey Park – Washroom will close on Tuesday, October 31.
  • Connaught Hill Park – Closed for the year on the evening of Monday, October 30, 2023, reopening Spring 2024.
  • Rainbow Park – Closed for the year on the evening of Monday, October 30, 2023, reopening Spring 2024.
  • Nechako Riverside Park – Closed once snow has fallen and stayed on the ground.

Masich Place Stadium’s track will also close at the end of the month, and the entire stadium will shut down after Novermber 18th, which is the final booking of the year.

Taking its place, indoor walking at the CN Centre resumes on October 23.

Water Fountains will also be shut off to prevent frozen and ruptured lines:

Surprise visit brings big smiles to boy battling cancer in Quesnel

A young man battling eye cancer received a surprise visit over the Canada Day long weekend by a car club and motorcycle club in Quesnel. Over 50 vehicles from the Prospector’s Car Club and the Dangerous Curves Motorbike Club drove by and filled the dead-end roads near Kellen Harper-Frederiko’s house, with well wishes, toys to give to Kellen, and chances for him to sit in and on cars and bikes.

Some Northern Interior Health Unit services moving next year

Northern Health's Northern Interior Health Unit (NIHU) will be making a move in spring 2026.  According to Northern Health, the current NIHU building will be deconstructed after the move to make space for the tower.
