Sheldon Clare will be the BC Conservatives candidate in the newly-created Prince George-North Cariboo riding in the next provincial election.
Clare is known in several circles within Prince George – he has been an educator at the College of New Caledonia and served two terms as President of the Royal Canadian Legion branch in the northern capital.
Clare wants to be part of a government where everybody is able to live on their own terms without consequence.
“Everybody needs to have the expectation that they are individual rights, they have the ability to speak freely and practice their religion and to assemble freely are all respected. I don’t think that is the case in BC now.”
He along with the rest of the Conservatives want to put a stop to the NDP-led spending spree.
“We want to see accountable, ethical, and fiscally responsible government and we want to make sure we are seeing the rule of law enforced and want to return it to the peace and order that makes good government within our province.”
“I want to be part of making things better and turning this province into a place where there are opportunities for all of us.”
Clare was also very critical of the governing NDP on a number of key issues.
“I’ve got concerns about a large debt that has been growing out of control. I think there are issues with housing that need to be dealt with and the way in which, the COVID crisis was handled I don’t think was as good as made out to be by the other parties.”
“We want a more efficient government and make sure our taxation levels are brought down to a lower level – where they are now is not reasonable. We do recognize that people have value as individuals.”
Clare is also a past multi-term president and current director at large of the PG Rod and Gun Club.
Additionally, he was the national president of Canada’s National Firearms Association from 2010 to 2021, advocating for responsible firearms ownership.
Earlier this month, incumbent Prince George-North Cariboo BC United MLA Coralee Oakes announced she is seeking her fourth term in Victoria.
