Miracle Theatre aims to bring Wildfire Structural Protection Unit to PG

Miracle Theatre is aiming to bring a wildfire structural protection unit to the City of Prince George with their eighth production.

“A Structural Protection Unit is a 22-foot-long trailer that will house sprinklers, hoses, pumps and other wildfire protection equipment,” said City Manager of Emergency Programs Tanya Spooner.

“Basically, it has enough equipment to provide a moisture barrier for up to 50 homes during a wildfire event.”

Spooner added the plan is to use existing firefighters within the City to train in FireSmart or Structural Protection Specialist levels of training.

“There would be a specific unit within the fire department, but that would be of existing firefighters.”

She said the goal is to be able to have more of these units in the city.

“We already had on our list for the next grant cycle to start the process of acquiring a structural protection unit,” Spooner said.

“We will still continue with that, so hopefully within four and a half to five years, we’ll actually have two of these units within Prince George.”

Miracle Theatre’s run of A Comedy of Tenors will start on March 13th, and will last until April 3rd.

Miracle Theatre Director Ted Price calls the play one of the funniest he’s read.

“Prepare for an uproarious ride, full of mistaken identities, bedroom hijinks, madcap romance, and non-stop laughter,” he said.

The Structural Protection Unit is expected to cost approximately $175,000, remaining funds will be donated to the Prince George Community Foundation’s Emergency Response Fund.
