WHL:

The (18-7) Prince George Cougars are on the road to play three teams in the U.S. Division.

The Cougars visit the (13-9-1-1) Tri-City Americans tonight (Friday) at 7:00, the (10-11-2) Spokane Chiefs Saturday night at 6:00 and the (15-7-0-1) Portland Winterhawks Sunday night at 5:00.

The new commissioner of the WHL is Dan Near, an Adidas Hockey executive and former NHL marketing professional. The 43-year-old Near will officially take over the full responsibilities of the Commissioner’s Office beginning February 15, at which point current WHL Commissioner Ron Robison will transition into an advisory role.

BCHL:

The (7-11-3) Prince George Spruce Kings are in the Okanagan to play the top two teams in the BCHL Interior Division this weekend.

The Spruce Kings visit the (16-1-2-2) Penticton Vees tonight (Friday) and the (15-6-1) Vernon Vipers on Saturday.

Prince George is coming off Wednesday’s 5-4 overtime victory over the Langley Rivermen.

The Spruce Kings are in 7th place in the 8-team Interior Division.

Kai Greaves is headed to the BCHL’s All-Star Weekend.

The Spruce Kings defenceman was one of 21 players named to the initial roster for the All-Star Tournament that is set for Jan 19th and 20th in Penticton.

The 20-year-old has notched a goal and 12 assists in 20 games with the Spruce Kings this season.

BC Elite Hockey League:

The (12-3-1) U18 Cougars host the (12-2) Fraser Valley Thunderbirds Saturday night at 6:30 in the 10th annual Pink in the Rink Game.

The same teams also meet on Sunday morning at 10:30 at Kin 1.

The U18 Cougars are in second place and the Thunderbirds are third in the 9-team BC Elite Hockey League.

Canada West basketball:

The UNBC Timberwolves are in Kelowna to play the UBC Okanagan Heat in Canada West Basketball.

Games are scheduled for tonight (Friday) at 5:00 and 7:00 and Saturday at 4:00 and 6:00 PM.

The UNBC men are 3-3 while the women are 2-4.

UBCO is 2-4 both for the women and men.

Volleyball:

The B.C. High School Volleyball Championships are taking place this week in various parts of the province.

Cedars Christian started 3-0 at the Boys A in Vancouver.

Duchess Park advanced to the semifinals against South Kamloops at the Boys AA in Langley. DP Todd is down to the consolation but can still finish as high as 5th.

PGSS is on the consolation side with a 2-2 record at the Boys AAA in Victoria.

Cedars Christian went 1-2 on Thursday at the Girls A in Castlegar.

Shasti Kelly Road went 2-1 on Thursday at the Girls AA in West Vancouver.

College Heights was 2-1, Duchess Park 1-2 and PGSS 0-3 on Thursday at the Girls AAA in Dawson Creek.

 

NFL: (Week 13)

Dallas Cowboys  41  Seattle Seahawks  35

It was the 14th consecutive home win for the (9-3) Cowboys. The Seahawks fell to 6-6.
