2024 Polar Bear Dip registration now open

Ness Lake Bible Camp (NLBC) is under a month away from holding its annual Polar Bear Dip, local crazies who want to make the plunge can begin signing up now.

The yearly fundraiser helps kids get a week at the summer camp whose families otherwise would not be able to afford it.

Last year’s event raised around $32,000.

The dip takes place on January 1st every new year; Dayna Penson, NLBC’s Program Director, said “people can either come and watch and donate for the people jumping in, or they can go in themselves. Either way, it is a great time, and you get a cinnamon bun.”

Normally around this time of year, camp is asked how cold it has to be outside for them to pull the plug on the event.

This year, as temperatures remain high and Ness Lake hasn’t frozen over yet, the question is how warm is too warm?

Penson laughed, saying “we don’t want it to be like Vancouver… but we might have more people do it if it is not as cold. We will still do it, it might be more like a summer dip.”

Last year, she said somewhere between 100 – 115 dippers took the plunge.

In closing, Penson said “Come out, dress in funny costumes – you might win some prizes, and have fun doing it!”
