WHL:

After allowing just two goals in three games, 17-year-old Josh Ravensbergen of the Prince George Cougars is the WHL Rookie of the Week.

Ravensbergen earned his 5th shutout of the season with 33 saves in a 4-0 Sunday victory over the Portland Winterhwks.

The Cougars record for shutouts in one season is six and that was set by Scott Bowles.

The 6-foot-4, 180-pound Ravensbergen, who leads the WHL with a .944 save percentage and a 1.63 goals-against-average, has won his last nine starts in net.


The (21-7) Cougars host the (16-11-0-2) Victoria Royals on Friday and Saturday with Saturday being the Teddy Bear Toss game.

The Royals play tonight (Tuesday) against the Seattle Thunderbirds in Kent, Washington.

NHL: (6 Monday games with 2 Canadian teams in action)

BCHL:

The (7-13-3) Prince George Spruce Kings play their next two games against the (10-13-1) Bucks in Cranbrook on Friday and Saturday.

The next home games for Prince George will be on Dec. 15th and 16th against Trail.

The Spruce Kings are last in the 8-team Interior Division, four points behind 7th place Cranbrook and five back of the (9-11-3-1) Merritt Centennials.

BC Elite Hockey League: (in PG at Kin 1)

The (14-3-1) U18 Cariboo Cougars host the last place (1-17) Vancouver Island Royals on Saturday afternoon at 2:45 and Sunday morning at 9:00 at Kin 1.

The U18 Cougars are in second place in the 9-team BC Elite Hockey League, just a point back of the (14-2-0-2) Vancouver North East Chiefs.

NFL: (Final game in Week 13)

Cincinnati Bengals  34  Jacksonville Jaguars  31  (OT)

The (8-4) Jags lost QB Trevor Lawrence in the 4th quarter due to a high ankle sprain.

Jake Browning threw for 354 yards and a touchdown for the (6-6) Bengals.

High School Volleyball:

The Cedars Christian Eagles returned to Prince George with the gold medal from the A Boys B.C. High School Volleyball Championship in West Vancouver.

Cedars Christian edged Unity Christian of Chilliwack 3-2 in the final, taking the 5th and deciding set 15-12.

 

Canada West basketball: 

The UNBC Timberwolves will resume Canada West basketball league play on Friday, January 5th when they host the Lethbridge Pronghorns.

UNBC has a record of 5-3 for the men and 2-6 for the women.
