13th Annual Community Christmas will set up St. Vincent De Paul Society for the next while

Another Community Christmas supporting the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Prince George is in the books for us at 94.3 The Goat and Country 97fm.

Over $28,000 in cash, cheque and debit donations was raised for the society.

Additionally, a large amount of food, clothing and toy donations were brought in, bringing the donation total to over $50,000.

“When we think about the cost of food, and we think about everybody else’s buying power and their expenditures, people have been really, really generous,” said Bernie Gould, a board member at St. Vincent De Paul who has been volunteering with the Society for 42 years.

“It touches my heart, they probably give up some things for themselves to give it to others, and that’s the true meaning of Christmas.”

She added the fundraiser will set St. Vincent’s up well for the coming months.

“We serve three meals a day, and we do a fruit and vegetable hampers that a person can access once a week, and then they can access a food hamper once a month.”

Gould said one of the things that will stick with her from this year’s Community Christmas was people bringing their children to make donations.

“I think those are seeds that will be planted,” she said.

“That to me says our world is healthy, and that things will go on for the less fortunate when the seeds are planted, watered and nourished.”

While Community Christmas has ended, Gould said donations are always accepted at the St. Vincent De Paul Society.
