Scoring bonanza propels Cougars to big win over Giants

The Prince George Cougars were in the spirit of giving as they delivered a 9-2 win over the Vancouver Giants last night. (Saturday)

Eight different Cougars found the back of the net, while a total of 13 found their way onto the score sheet with either a goal or an assist, sending the 2,906 fans at the Langley Event Centre home sad.

Hudson Thornton arguably scored the biggest goal of the night and added two assists, which made him the all-time scoring leader among Cougars defencemen.

The Cougars Captain has 159 points in 172 career games with the Cougars.

The previous record was held by now part-owner of the Cougars, Dan Hamhuis, who had 157 points during his time with the Cats.

Thornton is also one goal away from tying the all-time goals by a defenceman record (47) held by Dustin Byfuglien.

Riley Heidt scored a pair in the win and added an assist.

 Zac Funk scored one of his own and added three assists, while Terik Parascak scored one and added two helpers.

 Tyson Buczkowski, Carlin Dezainde (1G, 1A), Oren Shtrom, and Arjun Bawa (1G, 1A) scored as well.

Nicholas McLennan notched a pair of assists, while Keaton Dowhaniuk and Bauer Dumanski notched one assist each.

15-year-old Carson Carels put up two helpers for his first two WHL points.

Josh Ravensbergen got the start in net, making 21 saves.

The Cougars (24-9-0-0) head into the Christmas break in a tie for first in the WHL Standings with the Saskatoon Blades. (23-8-2-0)
