300 bags with supplies to stay warm distributed to PG’s homeless

The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) delivered hundreds of care packages to Prince George’s homeless over the weekend.

According to the FNHA, 300 bags were stuffed with warm clothing, a survival blanket, and gift cards to Tim Hortons.

“This is important work. The problem is worsening and supplies are needed. For many, the connection to their home communities isn’t as strong as it could be,” said Brandon Prince, coordinator for the urban and away from home population with the FNHA. “This is only a start. We have to keep up momentum.”

20 staff members helped deliver the packages while another group handed out food – turkey dinners and baking – leaving the extras at Moccasin Flats’ food distribution centre.

The extra bags of warm clothes were left at Olive’s Branch, the Sobering Centre, and other shelters.

“I am so proud of our staff for taking time and going to meet people where they are at to offer support,” said Julie Morrison, FNHA Northern Region Vice-President of Operations.
