Young comes out on top in goaltending duel against Thunderbirds

The goalies were good, but Prince George’s was better in a 2-1 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds.

Ty Young made 38 saves on 39 shots to send the 4,045 fans at the accesso ShoWare Centre in Kent, Washington home sad.

“He’s been great as of late, and that’s what we want of Younger, and talk about what he expects too,” said Cougars Assistant Coach Carter Rigby on last night’s (Friday) post-game show on 94.3 the Goat.

“He’s the whole reason we won that game, 100 per cent. Special teams wasn’t great, some times we put him in some trouble and he made the saves when they counted.”

Neither team scored on the powerplay, the Cougars had six chances while Seattle had five.

Chase Pauls scored his first as a Cougar, while Ephram McNutt scored his first goal since notching the Cougar’s first goal of the 2022-2023 season.

“We weren’t ready to go, give them credit they came out and they pushed,” Rigby said.

“They’re a championship team for a reason, their role players skated us into the ground, their offense was at times here and there, but they made a few chances count.”
