Cougars claw back to top spot in Western Conference with win in Seattle

The Prince George Cougars are back in the win column after a 5-2 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds.

The Super Rookie Terik Parascak scored the game winner on the powerplay with two minutes to go, sending the 4,124 fans at the accesso ShoWare Center home disappointed.

The Thunderbirds took a 2-1 lead heading into the third period, but Chase Pauls tied it 6:33 into the final frame.

“We came out in the first period, we put a real focus on our team being a competitive team, and getting our sticks on pucks and getting one-on-one battles started in the offensive zone,” said Associate Coach Jim Playfair on the post-game show on 94.3 the Goat.

“As the game wore on into the second period they had a couple goals but I thought we were playing well enough to give ourselves a chance to win and we stayed with it.”

Hudson Thornton opened the scoring for the Cougars in the second period.

Riley Heidt and Zac Funk added empty-netters to seal the win.

Josh Ravensbergen got the start in net for the Cougars, making 25 saves.

Scott Ratzlaff made 38 saves for the Thunderbirds, coming off a 62 save performance during Seattles 3-1 win over Everett on Saturday.

It was a rare clean game for the Cougars, as they only took one minor penalty throughout the entire game.
