PG sets new all-time daily temperature record to end January

From -39 to +13, Prince George residents experienced both ends of the weather spectrum to kick off 2024.

When you add it all up, the average mean temperature for the PG was -8.9 degrees, pretty much on par for this time of year.

Lisa Erven with Environment Canada told MyPGNow.com Prince George capped off the month setting a new all-time daytime temperature record for January.

“If we take a look at daytime high temperatures for all days in January over all years that we have a record for temperatures, January 31st, 2024 did set a new all-time high for daytime highs with a mark of 13.2 degrees.”

“When you add up all of those temperatures for the month of January, it sort of averages out to normal, but that certainly doesn’t describe the extreme weather that we had throughout the month.”

In addition, the northern capital recorded 48.2 millimetres of precipitation fall during the month, which is 92% of normal.

As for February, a return to more seasonal conditions begins this weekend but will see mostly dry and chilly surroundings.

Erven noted we likely won’t see any precipitation until the middle of next week when PG could see some flurries or snow re-enter the picture.
