Cruisin’ Classics hold first model car show

It is still a little out of season for the cars in featured in the summer Show n Shine, but that didn’t stop the Cruisin’ Classics crew from showcasing collections of cars this weekend.

They held a model car show at the House of Ancestors today, dozens of collectors, model car builders, and observers came out to look, shop, and vote on their favourites.

Doug Olson, a member of the Cruisin’ Classics Club, said the models on display ranged from wooden to Lego and were not limited to just cars.

“It is for people who want to come show all their hard work, or to come and appreciate and have some fun,” he said.

Every kid 12 and under who brought something to display was sent home with a prize, some in the $50 – $60 price range.

Kids 13-18 and people 19 and over could enter into three different categories, each winner was presented a plaque.

“We have had a really great turnout, especially for our first one,” Olson said. “Lots of really interesting stuff… hopefully the first of many.”

“You don’t have to have the full size car to be a part of the club. If you just want to build, come check us out. It is a lot of fun.”

Olson said any classic car enthusiasts, model car collectors, or people interested in learning more can contact them through their website and come to a monthly meeting.

Looking to the future, Olson said “We are going to try and make it bigger and better for next year, hopefully it keeps growing. That means more people are out there building, or at least appreciating.”
