Coldest Night of the Year set for Saturday

The Coldest Night of the Year is returning to Prince George Saturday.

The Coldest Night of the Year is a cross-Canada walk-a-thon, raising money for people in need.

“In Prince George, we specifically organized it with AWAC, the Association for Women and Community, back in 2017, and we’ve just sort of gone one since then to provide funds for AWAC,” said Elda Egan Assistant Director.

The walk will start at St. Giles at 5:00 on February 24th.

“We’ll walk down Vitoria to AWAC for a rest stop, and head back up, some people do a shorter walk, and then have a light meal afterwards.” Egan said.

Egan added the goal is to raise $40,000.

As of 1:00 pm today (Sunday), $19,807 has been raised.

“It’s not just providing the funds, it’s raising awareness that the people who are unhoused could be any of us, could be our kids, and we’re just doing it to help,” she said.

Registration for the event can be found here.
