1697s Rugby Club offering free clinic

The 1697s Rugby team is offering an opportunity to try Rugby this weekend.

“It’s a good opportunity for the kids to come out and see what rugby is about,” said 1697s Coach Katie Gordon.

“We’ve had a growing community and interest in rugby since coming back from Covid. We currently have 40 athletes down in Vancouver competing this week for the Vancouver 7s Invitational through the Aurora Wolves which is our northern regional team.”

The club team is inviting anyone between the ages of 12 and 18 who may be curious about the sport to come out.

“Our high school program is where we’re looking to build that engagement,” Gordon said.

“We’re hoping to have high school programs at College Heights this year, Shas Ti Kelly Road, and Duchess Park, as well PGSS also has an established team. It’s exciting to have that kind of representation through the high schools, and with having a city club, it creates further pathways to BC Rugby to play regionally, to play provincially, and to compete nationally.”

The free clinic will be held at the UNBC Northern Sport Centre on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
