A 16-4 run in the dying minute capped off a solid playoff win for the UNBC Timberwolves men’s basketball team.
UNBC, who entered Wednesday’s play-in game as the 12th seed sent home the heavily favoured UBC Thunderbirds 86-76 from the Investors Group Athletic Centre in Winnipeg.
All five Timberwolf starters reached double-digit points including a 17-point performance from Justin Sunga.

Darren Hunter proved equally as clutch for UNBC in a sixth-man role off the bench, tallying 17 points.
Timberwolves head coach Todd Jordan’s game plan to keep Thunderbirds leading scorer Brian Wallack in check worked like a charm, posting a pedestrian seven points in 19 minutes of action.
James Woods led UBC in defeat with a 25-point showing while former Timberwolf Fareed Shittu rarely came off the court, hooping 17 points and six rebounds.
The Thunderbirds were ice cold from beyond the arch going a chilly 4-for-25 from three-point range. UNBC, however, converted nearly half of its field goals and went 6-for-19 from long distance.
