Big Brothers Big Sisters raising money for local youth supports on Pink Shirt Day

Tomorrow (Wednesday) is Pink Shirt Day across Canada.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern BC (BigsNBC) is raising money through the sale of pink shirts to mark the annual occasion.

Multiple businesses around town, including Tim Hortons, McDonald’s, Carl’s Jr, the Prince George Cougars, Blissful Bubbles, the Open Door CafĂ©, and Central Builders, are also running initiatives or fundraisers to support the cause.

According to Jael Reimer, a BigsNBC spokesperson, the proceeds go towards youth mentoring programs.

“It has been shown mentoring helps those that are being bullied, as well as those doing the bullying, to find resources to cope and succeed,” she said. “Our in school mentoring program matches a kid in elementary school with an adult that acts as a positive role model. It also goes to group programming – kids can come to a group once a week and participate in all kinds of different activities.”

Reimer added all the programs BigsNBC runs are free.

This year’s shirts can be purchased online here and picked up in person at the BigsNBC office.
