BC Coroner: Pilot of crashed Prince George bound flight was drunk

The BC Coroner’s Service has confirmed that the pilot of Carson Air Flight 66, which crashed into the North Shore Mountains on the way to Prince George in April, was drunk.

34 year old Robert Brandt was the captain of the Metro II cargo plane that left Vancouver for Prince George on April 13th 2015.

It crashed into Coliseum Mountain north of Vancouver, killing both him and the co pilot; 32 year old Kevin Wang.

The pilot had a blood alcohol level of .24%, about 3 times the legal limit to drive a car. No other substances were found in Brandt’s blood.

No drugs or alcohol was found in the co pilots system.

Kelowna based Carson Air issued a statement saying “the news is troubling because it is contrary to our policies and practices.”

The incident remains under investigation by the Transportation Safety Board and BC Coroner’s Service
