Cougars’ star forward Riley Heidt signs NHL deal with Minnesota Wild

Updated at 10 Pm Saturday

It was only a matter of time for Riley Heidt.

After putting together one of the most impressive seasons in Prince George Cougars history, 18-year-old Heidt has signed an entry-level NHL contract with the Minnesota Wild.

Through 66 games this season, Heidt has amassed 37 goals and 80 assists for 117 points – the second most by any Cougar in a single season.

Heidt celebrated by notching a hat trick tonight (Saturday) leading the Cougars to a 5-2 victory over Kamloops as P.G. clinched first place in the WHL Western Conference.

The impressive season pushed Heidt past Jansen Harkins for the title of Cougars’ all-time leading scorer, now with 85 goals, 195 assists, and 80 points in his 221 game career.

The Wild selected Heidt in the second round, 64th overall, in the second round of the 2023 NHL draft.

He was picked second overall by the Prince George Cougars in 2020, the first player taken behind Connor Bedard in that draft year.
