Police watchdog investigating officer-involved shooting near PG

A police-involved shooting along the Tsay Keh Dene Nation north of Prince George is under investigation by the Independent Investigations Office of BC.

According to the BC RCMP, the police watchdog was notified after two people were found deceased, one man was shot by police.

On Tuesday, the Tsay Keh Dene RCMP responded to a report of shots fired inside a residence with injuries to multiple people.

Once officers arrived at the home at approximately 10:30 p.m. a man was located with a firearm who ran into a second nearby home.

A containment was set up and the North District Critical Incident Program [Crisis Negotiator Team (CNT), Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Critical Incident Commander] were requested to attend.

Two hours later (12:20 am) negotiations were initiated and remained on-going for nearly six hours.

The man reportedly exited the second residence with a firearm and was struck by police a short time later.

He was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

BC RCMP North District Major Crime is conducting a concurrent investigation into the deaths of the two deceased.

The IIO is investigating police actions in the incident.
