WHL

Prince George Cougars: 6  vs  Kelowna Rockets: 2

The Cougars are off to the Western Conference finals for the first time since 2007, and the fourth time in the team’s history.

They disposed of the Rockets in five games, closing the series last night in front of a sold-out CN Centre.

Kelowna opened the second period with goals 15 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead, but after a timeout the Cougars stormed back and scored 5 unanswered goals in the period.

Zac Funk scored a hat trick in the game, Riley Heidt had two goals and two assists.

Next up: the Portland Winterhawks. Tickets go on sale at 11:00 this morning, game 1 will be played on Friday in the CN Centre.

NHL

The stage is set and the Washington Capitals are on their way to another cup.

The Stanley Cup Playoffs begin today with the Islanders and Hurricanes facing off at 2:00 and the Leafs and Bruins following at 5:00.

Four more rounds get started tomorrow, the final two get going on Monday.

NBA

The first round of the NBA playoffs also begin today.

The Magic and Cavs tip off at 10:00 this morning, followed by the Suns and Timberwolves at 12:30, 76ers and Knicks at 3:00, and Lakers and Nuggets at 5:30.

MLB

The Blue Jays look to beat the Padres in back to back games, coming off a 5-1 win yesterday.

The Jays currently sit third in the AL East with an 11-9 record.

Low temperature record falls for Prince George

Prince George recorded its coldest temperature for October 13th this morning (Monday) according to Environment Canada. "Prince George Airport registered a low temperature of minus 9.5, which broke the record of minus 7.0, set in 1993," said Environment Canada Meteorologist Gary Dickinson.

Ice making process to start at two RDFFG rinks

The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George says the ice making process will start at a couple of rural rinks this week. At the start of this month, the Regional District announced ice-making would be indefinitely suspended at the Robson Valley Recreation Centre in McBride and the Canoe Valley Recreation Centre in Valemount.
