Police hunting prolific graffiti vandal

DSC_3896
Police in Prince George are trying to track down a prolific graffiti vandal that has caused well over $100,000 worth of damage in the city.

The tagger goes by “FAKS”, and has hit over 50 locations with at least 120 tags since July 2014.

Corporal Craig Douglas says they don’t like giving the vandal exposure, but their efforts to catch him so far have come up empty.

“We need information from the public and to do that we need to go public. Certainly there is that risk that they are getting what they want through this, but if we get what we want out of it than that won’t matter.”

The suspect is a 15 – 30 year old male wearing hooded clothing and carrying a backpack. Police say that he rarely operates alone and most of his tags are accompanied by other vandalism.

Douglas added that there is a good chance that “FAKS” and his accomplices are shoplifting the spray paint for the crimes and is asking store owners to keep an eye out.

“Spray painting on apartment windows; so people in an building look out the window and they see spray paint. Or on old brick apartment buildings… where it’s unsightly, but it also take a lot of effort and money to remove.”

The fact that all of the vandals tags have taken place in the bowl area leads police to believe the suspect does not have a vehicle.

When caught, the suspect will face mischief charges for each individual tag.

Police are asking taxi drivers, security personnel, truck drivers and anyone that works overnight to keep their eyes open and report anything suspicious.

Anyone with information on the identity of the tagger should contact RCMP or CrimeStoppers and they may be eligible for a cash reward.
